MARKET LENDING REPORT SWITZERLAND 2021

 

New technologies, the low interest rate environment and changing customer behavior are weakening certain competitive advantages of traditional banks and leading to the emergence of new business models in the financial sector. Marketplace Lenders, which are active in the Swiss debt capital market with online platforms, are an impressive example of this. The market volume of these platforms reached CHF 15.4 billion in 2020. Compared with 2019, this represents a growth of 42 percent.


Loans to public-sector entities already have a considerable market share. Mortgage intermediaries are still at a lower level, but show positive growth rates. Crowdlending, on the other hand, has grown only slightly in the past year due to Covid-19.
